The two women who switched lives, Vicky (35 & a Poise Magazine editor) and Amber (housewife, mother of 2) didn't stick it out for the whole month. I think this book was a good read. I don't think this was a true telling on how the other half lives. Wasn't a page-turner for me but I was able to get through it. This is one of those "greener on the other side of the fence stories." Someone is not happy with what they have and wants to find out if what they wish for could be worth the wait. I've read in other reviews that Jane Green's earlier books were better. I will let you know.
Best of luck. Anyway, I couldn't enjoy it because I kept wanting to edit it.
So, I grabbed swapping lives, thought the jacket description sounded interesting. Sadly, it was the only well written, readable part of the book.
I read beach house and enjoyed it as a summer read. I think deep down, there was a good idea for a story but sadly, execution was lacking and sloppy.
Where the heck was her editor. There was so much droning on and on and repetitive writing describing the two main characters.
(BTW, I'm not an editor, just your average stay home mom who enjoys reading A LOT). I haven't given up on her yet, however, if the next one is this much of a stinker, I'm moving on.
Vicky, a single, career-minded, yet a bit desperate to find a man, features editor for a well-known magazine, swaps lives with Amber, a married mother of two who has enough money to not only keep up with "the Joneses", but to regularly surpass "the Joneses." Throughout, I found myself grateful that I didn't identify with either woman. Great literature this was not, but it does pass for a great beach read. The basic premise of the novel is just as the title says, the story of two women Swapping Lives. The author takes us on a journey of what it's like for these women to live as the other and learn to appreciate the life they have. The experience of reading this left me thinking that if we all focused a bit more on our own lives rather than comparing ourselves to others, not only would we be better off, we'd also be a whole lot happier.
Don't bother reading this book. Also, there's so many characters that you have a hard time keeping up with all the names. I stopped reading at around page 60. Very lame book. Really not worth your time. Find something better to read (like Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic books.those are actually funny and much better written than this Jane Green book).
and number 3.-books that aren't even worth reading.Needless to say, Life Swap falls under category number two.Jane Green, had such a large emotional and literary plane to explore in developing this novel. I was given a gift certificate to a book store as a Christmas gift, (YAYYY :))and this was one of the items I selected. I feel as is the novel failed to reach its potential. Allow me to say: BIG MISTAKE.There are three categories of literature, number 1.-books that I will spend my hard earned money on. and number 2.-books that I will borrow from a friend/the library. Its a fairly well written light read. Easily forgettable in my book.
